Our Doctors
Dr. Melanie Sherk
Melanie is originally from Kitchener, Ontario. She attended the University of Waterloo and graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1979. After graduation, Melanie practiced in Southern Ontario for 2 years including working at the School of Optometry as a clinician supervising students of optometry.
Melanie moved to Surrey in 1981 and practiced in Langley and North Surrey prior to opening her own practice in White Rock. Special interest in the discipline of Sports Vision led Melanie to provide vision training to the B.C. Lions Football Club during the 1980's. In 2005, Melanie was named as one of the 50 Most Influential Women in EyeCare, the only one from Canada. Melanie is the past CEO and President /Treasurer of Doctors Eyecare Network, a national network of optometrists dedicated to providing complete patient-centered vision care.
Melanie is married to Dr. Bruce McCaig, a retired South Surrey dentist. They have a daughter Stephanie and a son Spenser. Melanie enjoys skiing and snowboarding at Whistler and golf, running, cycling, weight training and bridge.
Dr. Cindy Anderson
Cindy spent most of her early years in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She graduated from The University of Waterloo in 1984 with an Honors Bachelor of Science Degree as well as a Doctor of Optometry Degree. She married Dr. Nixon White, also an Optometrist, who convinced her that moving to White Rock was a good thing! In 1984 she joined forces with Dr. Melanie Sherk and has never looked back. As White Rock Optometry Clinic grew, Melanie and Cindy were later joined by Drs. Ertel, Curry, and Donaldson. Cindy loves her work and feels so very fortunate to be providing eyecare in such a wonderful community. She and her husband are active in the community and in the lives of their two children.
Dr. Tracy Ertel
Tracy is originally from Waterloo, Ontario. She graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours B.Sc. and a Doctor of Optometry Degree in 1985. After graduation, Tracy moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia where she practiced for one year.
In 1986, Tracy moved back to Ontario where she opened two practices, one in Ajax and the other in Oshawa. The practices grew rapidly and both were sold when Tracy's husband, Stephen Vaughan, accepted a position as General Manager of an international contact lens company located in Germany. The family spent 1993 in Munich experiencing new culture, learning German and traveling extensively in Europe. In 1994 the family moved to British Columbia.
Tracy's husband is sales manager for an ophthalmic imaging company. The family includes three daughters, Aurora (born in 1988), Veronica (born in 1990) and Marlowe (born in 1991). Tracy has served as president of the Fraser Valley Optometric Association and regional councillor for the British Columbia Association of Optometrists. Tracy is an active member of Star of the Sea Parish. Her leisure time activities include running, hot yoga, hiking, cycling, and skiing.
Dr. Tracey Curry
A native of Waterloo, Ontario, Dr. Tracey Curry graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 1996. She has practiced on the Sunshine Coast, in Williams Lake, and Vancouver. She joined White Rock Optometry in 2002.
Dr. Curry received numerous awards at graduation from Optometry school including the A.W. Cole Award for Clinical Excellence. She is currently involved with a group responsible for setting test questions for the Canadian Examiners in Optometry.
Dr. Curry is married to James Sawada, a Technology Education teacher at Earl Marriott Secondary. They have 2 children; a daughter Jayden born in 2003, and a son Rylan in 2005. She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening and cooking.
Dr. Sally Donaldson
Sally Donaldson grew up in Kamloops, British Columbia. She studied at the University of Redlands, in California, and received her BSc. in Biology in 1991. Sally then moved to the East coast to study Optometry at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts, where she received her Doctor of Optometry in 1995. The following year, Dr. Donaldson did a residency in Primary Care Optometry at the New England Eye Institute.
Dr. Donaldson returned to British Columbia in 1996, and joined the White Rock Optometry Clinic in 2002. She currently enjoys seeing her patients in private practice and is also a member of the Questions committee of the Canadian Examiners in Optometry.
Sally is married to Dr. Brad Seely, a research associate in Forest Sciences at the University of British Columbia. They have three children, Harry (1998), Liv (2000) and Will (2002).
Dr. Eva Kalicinsky
Eva Kalicinsky was born and raised in Winnipeg Manitoba. She did her undergraduate studies at the University of Winnipeg and completed her Optometry Degree at the University of Waterloo, graduating on the Dean’s Honour List in 2010. Eva completed a clinical rotation at a specialty clinic in Huntsville Alabama, working alongside ophthalmologists in the treatment and management of ocular diseases.
Eva enjoys tennis, running, yoga, traveling and cooking. She is excited and motivated to begin her career in White Rock and feels privileged to be in a wonderful community.
